A Korean-American member of the US House of Representatives has been named a co-chair for a US congressional study group on Korea, an association of former US lawmakers said Thursday.

Young Kim (R-CA) will serve as co-chair of the Congressional Study Group on Korea along with Rep. Ami Bera (D-CA), according to the Association of Former Members of Congress (FMC).

While South Korea is a modern and free nation, communist North Korea remains a totalitarian nightmare filled with prison camps and widespread malnutrition. The world has changed dramatically since the Korean War ended in 1953, but the “hermit kingdom” is still a Stalinist throwback.

When it comes to the goal of denuclearizing North Korea, shared by allies South Korea and the United States, establishing consistency in their relevant policies is a necessary step, regardless of which administration takes office, either in Seoul and Washington, lawmakers and politicians of the countries said during a virtual forum.
