Washington, DC – Today, Girl Scouts’ Troop Capitol Hill Co-Chairs, U.S. Representatives Young Kim (CA-40), Debbie Wasserman Schultz (FL-23), Cathy McMorris Rodgers (WA-05), and Bonnie Watson Coleman (NJ-12), introduced a bipartisan resolution to recognize March 12, 2024 as Girl Scouts Day and its 112th founding anniversary, and also honor the tremendous impact this group has on countless young women and girls over time.
The resolution:
- Celebrates Girl Scouts of the USA’s 112 years of inspiring and supporting girls’ leadership development;
- Congratulates Girl Scouts who earned the Gold Award in 2023; and,
- Encourages Girl Scouts to develop the skills of future leaders.

“For 112 years, Girl Scouts of the USA has uplifted girls and young women across the country to become our future generation of problem solvers and leaders,” said Kim. “As a former Girl Scout and troop leader for my daughters, I’m proud to celebrate Girl Scouts of America’s work to create supportive networks and empower girls to succeed and achieve their dream. I’ll continue to fight for opportunities for women and girls, so they have the tools to do anything they set their minds to.”

The Girl Scouts are about so much more than the cookies — although they are delicious — and I’m so grateful for all the good work they do for communities across the country.”
Rep. Kim serves as co-chair of the Women in STEM Caucus and the Financial Literacy and Wealth Creation Caucus. She has been a tireless advocate for STEM opportunities through initiatives such as:
- Leading the bipartisan Innovations in Informal STEM Learning Act (H.R. 3859), which became law through the CHIPS and Science Act, to support afterschool programs that provide STEM exposure and experiences to students;
- Serving as co-chair of the Congressional App Challenge in the117th Congress, where she hosted the largest App Challenge in history and had a nationwide record of 192 student teams from her own Congressional District;
- Urging the Biden administration to strengthen STEM education in response to the largest decrease in 4th and 8thgrade mathematics scores recorded in the 2022 National Assessment of Educational Progress Report Card with 4th and 8th-grade mathematics scores recording their largest decrease in decades;
- Fighting for advanced math opportunities in California; and,
- Helping introduce bills including:the Data Science and Literacy Act of 2023(H.R. 1050) to expand access to STEM education; the Research Excellence through STEM Inclusion Act (H.R. 3809) to grow our STEM workforce; and,the Securing American Leadership in Science and Technology Act to create a long-term investment strategy in research, infrastructure and supply chain management.
