Rep. Young Kim

Washington, DC – Today, U.S. Representative Young Kim (CA-40) joined House Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman Michael McCaul (TX-10), Ranking Member Gregory Meeks (NY-05), and more than 390 colleagues to introduce a bipartisan resolution to condemn the unprovoked attack by Hamas terrorists on the people of Israel.

Rep. Kim serves on the House Foreign Affairs Committee, where she is Chairwoman of the Indo-Pacific Subcommittee and a member of the Africa Subcommittee.

“Growing up in South Korea in the aftermath of the Korean War, I remember well what it is like to live under constant threat. This feeling came back to me visiting Israel last year and seeing the threats faced each day by the resilient people of Israel,” said Rep. Kim. “I wholeheartedly stand with Israel as it faces unprovoked attacks by Hamas and other terrorist groups backed by the Iranian regime. I am praying for the loved ones of the victims tragically killed or injured – including at least 11 Americans and thousands of Israeli civilians. I am hopeful Congress can show our unified support during this horrific time. I will continue being a loud voice for our ally Israel and against the rogue Iranian regime backing these brutal attacks and supporting terrorism around the world.”

“Now is the time to show the world the United States firmly stands with our friend and ally Israel in our condemnation of this heinous attack by Iran-backed terrorists,” said Chairman McCaul. “I expect this bipartisan resolution to be one of the first, if not the first items considered on the floor once we elect a new Speaker. And I expect it to receive overwhelming bipartisan support.”

“President Biden has committed the United States fully to Israel’s self defense,” said Ranking Member Meeks. “Israel is responding to the Hamas terror organization’s unprecedented attack. The bipartisan resolution will demonstrate this is one issue in which the US House of Representatives is united, and I expect it to pass the House with broad bipartisan support.”

The resolution shows support for Israel by expressing that Congress:

  • Stands with Israel as it defends itself against the barbaric war launched by Hamas and other terrorists;
  • Reaffirms Israel’s right to self-defense;
  • Condemns Hamas’ brutal war on Israel;
  • Calls on all countries to unequivocally condemn Hamas’ brutal war on Israel;
  • Calls on Hamas to immediately cease these violent attacks and safely release all living hostages and return the bodies of deceased hostages;
  • Mourns the over 700 Israelis killed and over 2,000 others wounded in Hamas’ unprovoked attack on Israel;
  • Reaffirms the United States’ commitment to Israel’s security, including through security assistance in line with the 2016 U.S.-Israel Memorandum of Understanding;
  • Urges full enforcement of the Taylor Force Act and other restrictions in U.S. law to prevent United States foreign assistance from benefiting terrorists, directly or indirectly;
  • Condemns Iran’s support for terrorist groups and proxies, including Hamas and Palestinian Islamic Jihad;
  • Urges full enforcement of U.S. sanctions against Iran to prevent Iran’s funding of terrorist groups including Hamas and Palestinian Islamic Jihad; and,
  • Stands ready to assist Israel with emergency resupply and other security, diplomatic, and intelligence support.
