Washington, DC – Today, U.S. Representative Young Kim (CA-39) was named a Congressional Retail Crime Fighter by the National Retail Federation (NRF) for her tireless work in Congress to fight organized retail crime, protect public safety and support small business owners.
“Retail crimes endanger entrepreneurs, employees and customers alike. In my district, we see another business victimized nearly every week,” said Rep. Kim. “People want safe communities. As a small business owner and Ranking Member of the House Small Business Subcommittee on Innovation, Entrepreneurship and Workforce Development, I’m proud to lead the bipartisan Improving Federal Investigations of Organized Retail Crime Act to help address these crimes and will keep working hard to support our entrepreneurs chasing their dream, creating jobs and strengthening our local economies. I thank NRF for this recognition and their efforts to advocate for the 52 million Americans working in retail.”
Recent retail crimes have occurred in communities in or near CA-39, including at:
- The Grand salon in Brea;
- A technology store in Chino Hills;
- T-Mobile in Orange;
- The Brea Mall;
- Plaza West Covina;
- David Hayman Jewellers in Yorba Linda; and,
- Bella Terra mall in Huntington Beach, among others.
In April, Rep. Kim introduced the bipartisan Improving Federal Investigations of Organized Retail Crime Act (H.R. 7499) to help address organized retail crimes hurting retailers and endangering public safety. Rep. Kim is also a cosponsor of the INFORM Consumers Act (H.R. 5502) which requires online marketplaces to verify the identity of high-volume third-party sellers to help curb the sale of counterfeit goods and stolen merchandise.
