Washington, DC – According to updated Legislative Effectiveness Scores by the Center for Effective Lawmaking (CEL), U.S. Representative Young Kim (CA-40) was ranked as one of the most effective Republican House members in International Affairs during her first term in the 117th Congress.
“Our national security is vital to protecting the American dream for future generations. Foreign policy decisions will determine our nation’s future, and I am proud that I got right to work on effective policies to promote U.S. strength, support our allies, and hold our adversaries accountable,” said Rep. Kim, who serves as Chairwoman of the Indo-Pacific Subcommittee. “My focus as always is delivering results for my constituents, and I am thrilled my record shows exactly that. I will keep fighting every day for responsible solutions to issues impacting my district and our nation.”
CEL noted that, “she is the only freshman member of Congress to be among the Top Ten most effective Republican lawmakers in international affairs. Moreover, in her freshman term she was actually the second-ranked Republican House member on this list, falling only behind Rep. Michael McCaul […] she had an immediate impact on the lawmaking process; and those interested in future foreign policy actions would benefit from watching or working with her closely.”
Rep. Kim’s Legislative Effectiveness Score was also the highest of House Republican freshmen and was one of ten whose was “exceeding expectations.” For her record, she was also named a Common Ground Champion, ranked most bipartisan freshman by the Lugar Center and McCourt School of Public Policy at Georgetown University and according to data by Quorum Analytics, and she received the Bipartisan Policy Center’s Legislative Action Award.
Rep. Kim delivered many accomplishments on the House Foreign Affairs Committee in the 117th Congress, such as:
- Leading the Arms Exports Delivery Solutions Act, which became law through the NDAA to track delivery of backlogged U.S. arms sales to Taiwan, South Korea, Japan and other Indo Pacific allies;
- Helping reunite Korean American divided families with war-torn loved ones and fight for the human rights of the North Korean people;
- Supporting human rights of Uyghurs and other ethnic minorities in the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region by leading the bipartisan Uyghur Policy Act;
- Introducing the Rescue Endangered SIVs and Citizens and Urgently Evacuate to Safety (RESCUES) Act of 2022 to establish congressional oversight of the State Department’s management of private Afghanistan evacuation operations; and,
- Advocating for Taiwan’s observer status in the World Health Organization and World Health Assembly, which became law.
