Washington, DC – Yesterday, U.S. Representatives Young Kim (CA-40) and Sydney Kamlager-Dove (CA-37), both graduates of the University of Southern California (USC), celebrated the creation of the Trojan Caucus to bring together Members and staff who are USC alumni.
USC is a constellation of schools, centers and institutes where some of the brightest minds are leading the way to the future of education. USC brings together people of different backgrounds, cultures, experiences, and incubates curious minds to forge unique bonds that flourish beyond campus and across generations.
Inaugural members of the Trojan Caucus include Reps. Ashley Hinson (IA-02), Robert Garcia (CA-42), and Nanette Díaz Barragan (CA-44).
“As a young girl and immigrant, I always thought receiving a college degree was the American Dream. USC is where this dream became a reality. I saw my parents in the crowd beaming with pride as I walked across the stage to receive my diploma, and it was only the beginning,” said Rep. Kim (‘85), Trojan Caucus Co-Chair. “I am excited to join Rep. Kamlager-Dove and colleagues to launch this bipartisan caucus that will bring all Trojans together on Capitol Hill and keep the American dream alive for future generations. Fight On!”
“Although I was born and raised in Chicago, it was USC that turned me into an Angeleno,” said Rep. Kamlager-Dove (’94), Trojan Caucus Co-Chair. “USC brought me to the city where I began my career in arts nonprofits, secured my first position in public office, and launched my successful campaign for U.S. Congress. My time at USC profoundly shaped my life, and I’m deeply grateful for all the opportunities it provided. I’m excited to lead this bipartisan Caucus alongside Rep. Kim, working together to uplift Trojans both in DC and at home.”
“My time at USC shaped my career, equipping me with the skills to pursue my dream of being a broadcast journalist. After years of telling Iowans’ stories, I wanted to take action on the issues that matter most. I’m proud to be a USC graduate and part of the Trojan Caucus — Fight On!” said Rep. Hinson (’05).
“As part of the faculty at USC, I had the opportunity to teach the next generation of public policy and communications leaders,” said Congressman Garcia (’05). “I’m excited to join my fellow alumni in this bipartisan Caucus to bring the well-rounded Trojan principles to Congress. Fight on!”
“I am proud to join the Trojan Caucus alongside my fellow USC alumni in Congress,” said Rep. Barragán (‘05). The University of Southern California instilled in us the values of service, leadership, and a commitment to making a difference—principles I carry with me every day in my work on behalf of my constituents. I look forward to working with my fellow Trojans to uphold these values and continue fighting for policies that strengthen our communities and expand opportunity for all.”
“I want to thank Reps. Young Kim and Sydney Kamlager-Dove for starting the new Congressional Trojan Caucus. With our new USC Capital Campus in Washington DC, the caucus is another important way for our alums in Congress to connect and collaborate with fellow Trojans,” said Dr. Carol L. Folt, President, USC.
