Rep. Young Kim Receives Humane Society Award

Mar 8, 2024 | Press Releases

Washington, DC – This week, U.S. Representative Young Kim (CA-40) received the Humane Society’s Legislative Leader Award for her work to protect animals, stop animal cruelty and testing, and hold violators accountable.

“Animals should be treated with care, not cruelty. There’s no excuse for inhumane abuse, testing, and treatment of animals – especially on the taxpayer’s dime,” said Kim. “I thank the Humane Society for this award and will continue to work in a bipartisan manner to protect animals.”

“As the chair of the Indo-Pacific Subcommittee under House Foreign Affairs, Representative Young Kim plays a unique role in supporting animal protection goals in that region and here in the U.S. We were proud to award her our Legislative Leader award for prioritizing issues important to her animal-loving constituents, and we look forward to her continued leadership in this area,” said Sara Amundson, President, Humane Society Legislative Fund.

Rep. Kim is working in Congress to protect animals through bipartisan efforts such as:

  • The Bring Animals Relief and Kibble (BARK) Act (H.R. 4750) to increase food and pet supplies to animal shelters;
  • The Accountability in Foreign Animal Research Act (H.R. 5527) to prohibit the National Institutes of Health (NIH) from conducting or supporting research that involves animal testing in China, Cuba, Iran, North Korea, Russia, or other countries that are foreign adversaries;
  • The Humane Cosmetics Act of 2023 (H.R. 5399) prohibit animal testing in cosmetic products and the sale or transport of cosmetics developed using animal testing;
  • The Violet’s Law (H.R. 1465) to allow for the adoption of certain animals used in Federal research and other purposes;
  • The Cease Animal Research Grants Overseas (CARGO) Act (H.R. 4757) to prohibit NIH from awarding support for any activity or program that uses live animals in research.
