Washington, DC – Today, U.S. Representative Young Kim (CA-39) was appointed to serve as Vice Ranking Member of the Asia, the Pacific, Central Asia and Nonproliferation Subcommittee by Subcommittee Ranking Member Steve Chabot (OH-01).
“I am honored to have been named the Vice Ranking Member for the Subcommittee on Asia, the Pacific, Central Asia and Nonproliferation. Few areas of the world are as vital to U.S. foreign policy and national security as the Indo-Pacific region,” said Kim. “For the U.S. to remain a strong global leader, we must work together with our allies such as South Korea, Japan, Taiwan and Australia to promote human rights, democracy and nonproliferation, while holding our adversaries accountable. We are at a pivotal moment in our nation’s history and the actions we take in Asia will determine the course of the region for decades to come. I look forward to working with Subcommittee Ranking Member Chabot, Chairman Bera and my colleagues to confront the challenging issues we face in the region.”
“As Ranking Member of the Asia Subcommittee, I’m pleased to welcome Congresswoman Young Kim as the Subcommittee’s Vice Ranking Member,” said Chabot. “Congresswoman Kim brings deep experience to Congress and to this role, whether it’s her engagement in trade negotiation, her leadership in the United States-Republic of Korea Interparliamentary Exchange, or her passion for human rights. The subcommittee’s broad jurisdiction covers over half of the world’s population, a third of its economic activity, and challenges ranging from China, to Afghanistan, to North Korea. As we look to strengthen U.S. engagement in the Indo-Pacific, Congresswoman Kim’s advice and leadership will be critical to the success of the Subcommittee’s work.”
“I am pleased to join Congressman Chabot in welcoming Congresswoman Young Kim as the Vice Ranking Member for the Subcommittee on Asia, the Pacific, Central Asia and Nonproliferation.” said House Foreign Affairs Committee Ranking Member Michael McCaul (TX-10). “Rep. Kim brings a strong background and expertise in these policy areas to the committee. I look forward to working with her and Ranking Member Chabot to ensure our foreign policy goals are accomplished on the subcommittee this Congress.”
