Washington, DC – Today, U.S. Representative Young Kim (CA-39) joined House Science, Space and Technology Committee Ranking Member Frank Lucas (OK-03) to introduce the Securing American Leadership in Science and Technology Act. This critical bill will ensure America’s continued status as the global leader in science and technology.
The bill creates a long-term investment strategy in research, infrastructure and supply chain management to protect the economic and national security of the U.S. and our status as the world leader in research and technology.
“The United States must continue to lead on the world stage in technology, research and innovation. Our nation’s future economic and national security depends on our ability to promote scientific research, expand our STEM workforce to support future industries and develop and deploy new technologies while protecting consumer safety,” said Kim. “I’m proud to join Ranking Member Lucas to introduce this bill that will create a national strategy for continued U.S. leadership in today’s interconnected world. The Securing American Leadership in Science and Technology Act:
- Doubles basic research over 10 years;
- Invests in the science and technology to drive the development of cleaner, more efficient, low cost, advanced energy like advanced nuclear, battery storage and carbon capture technologies;
- Prioritizes critical research areas to establish global leadership in industries of the future like quantum science, artificial intelligence, supercomputing, advanced materials and manufacturing and cybersecurity;
- Expands our STEM workforce and enhances the American talent pipeline;
- Invests in the infrastructure needed to maintain world-class research facilities; and,
- Protects American research from foreign theft.
