Rep. Young Kim participates in a House Small Business Committee hearing.

Washington, DC – Today, U.S. Representative Young Kim (CA-39) released the following statement on H.R. 6:

“I have long supported resolving the status of Dreamers and giving certainty to those who came to this country as children through no fault of their own, know no other country as their home and are contributing to the fabric of American society. However, the bill considered by the House of Representatives today goes far beyond that, widely expanding its scope to many more people and even including those that arrived in the United States as recently as January 1, 2021. H.R. 6 is neither focused on those who have been in this country for years nor provides badly needed bipartisan reforms to our immigration system.

“As an immigrant that was welcomed by this country, I understand the importance of immigration to our communities and want others to be able to achieve their American Dream. I will continue to add my voice to the conversation on policies to fix our broken immigration system and secure our border. We must create a fair, considerate and legal immigration system and succeed in finding common ground where past Congresses have failed. Unfortunately, I and my other Republican colleagues have not even been given a chance to contribute to the conversation around this legislation. I hope we can come together to pass a bipartisan immigration and border security bill that supports Dreamers, legal immigrants and is in the best interest of the American people,” said Kim.
