Rep. Kim speaks in opposition to H.R .842.

Washington, DCToday, U.S. Representative Young Kim (CA-39) spoke on the House floor urging colleagues to vote no on H.R. 842, the so-called “Protecting the Right to Organize (PRO) Act,” which would nationalize the many of the failed policies Californian’s have lived under for years that have closed businesses, killed jobs and hurt workers. The partisan bill includes provisions similar to those in California’s disastrous Assembly Bill 5 that passed in 2019.

You can watch Rep. Kim’s remarks HEREand read the transcript below.

“Mr. Speaker, I rise today in support of our nation’s workers and businesses. We must find ways to work together to help our economy from the COVID-19 pandemic, however this bill is not the answer. It’s not even close.

“This bill would nationalize the disastrous California policies that have forced businesses out of my state, killing jobs and hurting workers. As we saw in California, businesses that can afford lobbyists eventually get carve-outs, while many small businesses are left holding the bag.

“The last thing we should be doing during this time is passing legislation that will kill jobs and make our recovery harder. From Uber and Lyft drivers, to financial advisors to local artists, we should support workers’ freedom, our gig economy and create policies that promote innovation.

“We should learn from the failings of AB 5 in California and vote NO on the PRO Act.

“Thank you, and I yield back.”
