La Habra, CA – Orange County School of the Arts Freshman Doyeon (Jennifer) Kim from La Habra was named the winner of the 2022 CA-39 Congressional Art Competition. Her winning artwork, titled, A Soulful Night Market, will be displayed in the U.S. Capitol Building in Washington, DC for one year. In announcing the news, U.S. Representative Young Kim (CA-39)  gave the following statement:  

“I am so impressed by the creativity and skill exhibited by the 90 talented high school artists who submitted their artwork for this year’s CA-39 Congressional Art Competition, the largest competition we have had held to date,” said Rep. Kim. “Jennifer’s artwork, ‘A Soulful Night Market,’ portrays the tradition of communities uniting with food at street markets, and I am pleased that my colleagues in Congress and thousands of visitors from around the world will be able to view it in our nation’s Capital building.” 

After careful consideration by judges Lisa M. Berman of Berman Arts Agency and a Curator at the Muckenthaler Cultural Center in Fullerton and Benjamin Gonzalez, Chair of the Cultural and Fine Arts Commission for the City of Buena Park, the following winners were chosen:   

  • 1st Place: A Soulful Night Market by Doyeon (Jennifer) Kim, Orange County School of the Arts 

  • 2nd Place: Obasan by Lujing Kuwei,  Glen A. Wilson High School 

  • 3rd Place: Welcome Home by Samantha Hernandez,  Buena Park High School
