WASHINGTON, DC — Today, House Foreign Affairs Subcommittee on East Asia and the Pacific Chair Young Kim (CA-40) and National Mining Association President and CEO Rich Nolan issued the following statement after House passage of the Developing Overseas Mineral Investments and New Allied Networks for Critical Energies (DOMINANCE) Act:
“Minerals are a foundation of America’s military power, industrial strength, and economic competitiveness. Unfortunately, our nation relies heavily on China for the very materials that underpin our economic and national security. While a stronger domestic mining and processing sector will not eliminate every supply risk or end the need for international partnerships, prioritizing domestic production will give the United States greater economic stability, stronger industrial capacity and more strategic flexibility in an increasingly competitive world where the vulnerability of supply chains continues to increase. Only then can we hope to wrestle control of the global energy and mineral supply chains away from China. We look forward to continuing to work together to enhance provisions in the DOMINANCE Act that will help to strengthen domestic supply chains, expand production and protect American mining jobs.”
