Washington, DC – This week, Girl Scouts’ Troop Capitol Hill Co-Chairs Reps. Young Kim (CA-40) and Bonnie Watson Coleman (NJ-12) introduced a bipartisan resolution (H.Res.217) to recognize March 12, 2025 as Girl Scouts Day on its 113th founding anniversary to celebrate the tremendous impact this organization has had on countless young women and girls over time.
The resolution:
- Celebrates Girl Scouts of the USA’s 113 years of inspiring and supporting girls’ leadership development;
- Congratulates Girl Scouts who earned the Gold Award in 2024;
- Encourages Girl Scouts to develop the skills of future leaders;
- And Commemorates the contributions of Juliette Gordon Low, the founder of Girl Scouts of the USA, who will be featured on the American Women Quarters this year.
“For 113 years, Girl Scouts of the USA has provided young girls with a safe and inclusive environment to explore their world, build meaningful relationships, and have access to experiences that prepare them for a life of leadership,” said Rep. Kim. “As a Girl Scout alumna and troop leader for my daughters, I have seen firsthand how Girl Scouts empowers girls to dream big and achieve their goals through its supportive and uplifting networks. I will continue to champion opportunities for women and girls, ensuring they have the resources and support to pursue any path they choose.”
“For 113 years, Girl Scouts of the USA has offered young women and girls an opportunity to make new friends, learn important skills, build confidence, and pursue their aspirations. The Girl Scouts are about so much more than the cookies — although they are delicious — and I’m so grateful for all the good work they do for communities across the country,” said Rep. Watson Coleman.
“This Girl Scout Week, I am honored that our Troop Capitol Hill co-chairs in the U.S. Senate and the U.S. House of Representatives have introduced bipartisan resolutions recognizing the trailblazing legacy of Juliette Gordon Low. Juliette founded a movement that encourages girls to champion their ambitions, develop confidence, and build the skills to thrive. Thank you for celebrating 113 years of Girl Scouts of the USA building girls of courage, confidence, and character, who make the world a better place!” said Bonnie Barczykowski, Chief Executive Officer, Girl Scouts of the USA.
Reps. Kim and Watson Coleman were joined by Reps. Betty McCollum (MN-04), Nicole Malliotakis (NY-11), Nikema Williams (GA-05), Mary Gay Scanlon (PA-05), Andrew Garbarino (NY-02), and Buddy Carter (GA-01).
