Washington, DC – Today, House Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman Brian Mast (FL-21) announced that U.S. Representative Young Kim (CA-40) will serve as Chairwoman of the Subcommittee on East Asia & Pacific.

“The East Asia & Pacific region is home not only to our greatest geopolitical competition but also to some of our strongest allies and partners. Simply put, America’s future national security depends on U.S. foreign policy decisions in the region,” said Rep. Young Kim. “I am humbled to serve as Chairwoman of the East Asia & Pacific Subcommittee and will work with my colleagues on both sides of the aisle to ensure America leads in the region to promote human rights, support fellow freedom-loving countries, strengthen free trade with our allies, and hold our adversaries accountable.”

“Young Kim is a fighter who works tirelessly to promote American leadership across the globe, especially by boosting our standing in Communist China’s backyard,” said Chairman Mast. “She is going to be a great subcommittee chairwoman.”

The East Asia & Pacific Subcommittee has jurisdiction over the East Asia & Pacific region covered by the State Department’s Bureau of East Asian and Pacific Affairs as well as over the U.S. Agency for International Development and the State Department Under Secretary for Economic Growth, Energy, and the Environment.

Rep. Kim grew up in South Korea in the aftermath of the Korean War and is one of the first Korean American women in Congress. She served as Chairwoman of the House Foreign Affairs Indo-Pacific Subcommittee and Vice Chairwoman of the House Financial Services Subcommittee on National Security, Illicit Finance, and International Financial Institutions in the 118th Congress.
