Young Kim

Washington, DC – U.S. Representative Young Kim (CA-40), Chairwoman of the House Foreign Affairs Subcommittee on the Indo-Pacific, released the following statement on the Biden administration’s creation of an export controls and commercial issues working group with China.

Rep. Kim, Select Committee on the Chinese Communist Party Chairman Mike Gallagher (WI-08), House Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman Michael McCaul (TX-10), and Senate Banking Subcommittee on National Security and International Trade and Finance Ranking Member Bill Hagerty (R-TN) wrote a letter to Commerce Secretary Gina Raimondo after reports revealed that she is considering joining the Chinese government in a working group after her trip to China.

“Creating a working group on export controls and commercial issues with China is the latest example of the Biden administration continuing engagement without any tangible results,” said Young Kim, Chairwoman of the Indo-Pacific Subcommittee. “A free and open Indo-Pacific is essential to global commerce and peace, but to protect U.S. economic and national security, this must be done through the rules-based order. As the administration bends over backwards just to get a meeting with Beijing, the Chinese Communist Party has shown no willingness to change its behavior. Concessions without progress do not advance U.S. interests, and the Biden administration is continuing on this path without transparency to Congress and the American people. I look forward to a full readout from Secretary Raimondo on her meetings with Beijing, the creation of the commercial issues working group, and the decision to remove 27 Chinese entities off the unverified list days before her trip.”
