WASHINGTON, D.C. — Today, Congresswoman Young Kim (CA-40) voted to pass the Fiscal Year 2027 National Security, Department of State, and Related Programs (NSRP) Appropriations Act to reinforce America’s leadership and advance U.S. national security priorities on the world stage.
The legislation delivers on a strong America First foreign policy approach by strengthening key alliances, countering malign influence, and ensuring taxpayer-funded foreign assistance is subject to strong federal oversight. It also reduces discretionary spending by six percent from Fiscal Year 2026 levels, ensuring more responsible, transparent stewardship of taxpayer dollars.
“I was proud to support this critical legislation to secure America’s strategic partnerships and advance peace through strength on the world stage,” said Rep. Young Kim. “As Iran, Russia, China, and North Korea grow more coordinated each day in their Unholy Alliance, America must project strength abroad while demanding accountability for every taxpayer dollar we spend. My amendment does exactly that by directing the State Department’s watchdog to ensure our national security investments are backed by the oversight they demand.”
Rep. Young Kim secured several key priorities in the legislation, including:
- Amendment No. 7, which urges for greater oversight at the State Department’s Office of Inspector General to better protect taxpayer dollars and combat waste, fraud, and abuse;
- Funding to advance AUKUS and U.S. policy priorities in Australia, plus $200 million in military assistance for the Philippines;
- $830 million for the Millennium Challenge Corporation, which facilitates private-sector led economic growth abroad and secures U.S. global leadership;
- $271.7 million for weapons destruction programs and continued funding to fight emerging disease threats;
- Language requiring nutrition and humanitarian aid dollars go toward the most cost-effective, evidence-based programs — cutting waste andmaximizing impact;
- $17 million for The Asia Foundation and continued broadcasting into North Korea at prior-year levels.
