Rep Young Kim at Hearing

Washington, DC – Today, U.S. Representative Young Kim (CA-40) introduced the Taiwan Travel and Tourism Coordination Act (H.R. 2370) with China Select Committee Chairman John Moolenaar (MI-02) and Raja Krishnamoorthi (IL-08) to identify ways to enhance U.S.-Taiwan economic and trade ties, expand market access in the Indo-Pacific region, and facilitate safer travel to the U.S.

This bipartisan bill would boost the American and Taiwanese economies and national security to ultimately counter growing Chinese Communist Party coercion in the region by requiring the federal government to:

  • Identify opportunities for enhanced travel between the U.S. and Taiwan;
  • Facilitate events and coordination between the travel and tourism industry partners in the United States and Taiwan;
  • Coordinate with Taiwan and other agencies on the safety and security of international visitors both at home and abroad; and
  • Conduct a feasibility study on establishing a pre-clearance facility in Taiwan to allow for faster travel to the U.S. and more efficient trade relations.

“Southern California is the Gateway to the Pacific Rim, and California’s 40th Congressional District benefits from strong trade and people-to-people ties with Asian partners, including Taiwan. As Xi Jinping continues to isolate Taiwan from the outside world, strengthening economic engagement is a win-win for our Taiwanese friends and for American jobs and national security,” said Rep. Young Kim. “The Taiwan Travel and Tourism Coordination Act ensures we support our freedom-loving partner, boost our economies, and strengthen U.S. global leadership against the CCP and other bad actors.”

“The Taiwan Travel and Tourism Coordination Act is a meaningful step in strengthening the U.S.-Taiwan partnership,” said Chairman John Moolenaar. “At a time when the Chinese Communist Party is working to isolate Taiwan, this bicameral, bipartisan legislation sends a clear message: the United States stands with our fellow democracies. By expanding travel and tourism cooperation, we’re deepening economic ties, promoting cultural exchange, and advancing our shared values. This bill ensures that the U.S. is not just talking about support for Taiwan — we’re taking action to make that support real and lasting.”

“Taiwan is a vibrant democracy and international destination of millions of visitors each year. Strengthening travel and tourism between the United States and Taiwan not only boosts the U.S. economy but strengthens Taiwan’s resistance to economic coercion by the Chinese Communist Party. By expanding people-to-people ties with Taiwan, we can build a more vibrant U.S.-Taiwan relationship and ensure greater security in the Indo-Pacific,” said Ranking Member Krishnamoorthi.

Companion legislation was introduced in the Senate by Sen. Marsha Blackburn (R-TN) and Brian Schatz (D-HI).
