Rep. Kim

Washington, DC – This week, House Speaker Mike Johnson (LA-04) appointed U.S. Representative Young Kim (CA-40) to serve on the House Select Committee on Strategic Competition Between the United States and the Chinese Communist Party in the 119th Congress.

This bipartisan committee is responsible for assessing the threats to the economy and national security posed by the CCP and proposing plans to ensure a stronger American future.

Rep. Kim also serves as chairwoman of the House Foreign Affairs Subcommittee on East Asia and the Pacific and is a member of the House Financial Services Subcommittee on National Security, International Financial Institutions, and Illicit Finance.

“Xi Jinping has made clear his goal for the Chinese Communist Party to be the world’s top economic, military, and technological superpower. Our freedoms and values we hold dear – and life as we know it – are at stake,” said Congresswoman Kim. “Nothing about the strategic competition between the CCP and the United States should be taken lightly. I look forward to serving on the CCP Select Committee and continuing my bipartisan work to counter the CCP’s growing aggression and economic coercion, uplift freedom-loving people oppressed under CCP authoritarianism, and protect the American dream for future generations.”

“Rep. Young Kim represents a critical addition to our efforts as we confront the growing threat of the Chinese Communist Party. The CCP is the most significant national and economic security challenge of our time, and Rep. Kim’s experience and leadership will be invaluable as we build on the bipartisan work we began in the 118th Congress. I am grateful to Speaker Johnson for his ongoing support, and I look forward to working together with Rep. Kim and our colleagues to advance policies that will keep the United States strong and secure as we take on the increasing challenges posed by China,” said Chairman Moolenaar.

“To secure a strong American future and counter the growing influence of the Chinese Communist Party, Congress has a duty to continue the important, bipartisan work of the China Select Committee in the 119th Congress. As a leader on the Foreign Affairs Committee and an expert on Indo-Pacific issues, Congresswoman Young Kim will be an invaluable addition to the Committee, and it is my distinct honor to appoint her to serve,” said Speaker Johnson.
