Jan 29, 2025 | Press Releases

Washington, DC – Today, U.S. Representative Young Kim (CA-40), one of the first Korean American women to serve in Congress, joined Rep. Grace Meng (NY-06) and bipartisan colleagues to introduce a bipartisan resolution (H.Res.75) honoring Lunar New Year.

Last week, Congresswoman Kim recognized Lunar New Year on the House floor.

Watch HERE or read her remarks below.

I rise to celebrate Lunar New Year, 설날 (Seollal) as it’s called in Korean, and Tet Festival in Vietnamese as we ring in the year of the snake.

Snakes are mysterious, smart, alert, determined, and calm.

We enter this new year with the same calmness, wisdom, and alertness, standing steady and ready to take on any challenges or opportunities that come our way.

I wish success, good health, and blessings for you and your family in the new year.

In Congress, I will embody the calm determination of the snake as I build on my record of effectiveness and deliver results for our Southern California communities.

So let me wish everybody a Happy New Year!

In Korean: saehae bok mani badeuseyo (새해복많이받으세요

In Mandarin: Xīnnián kuàilè (新年快樂)

In Cantonese: Gong hei fat choy (恭喜發財)

In Vietnamese: Chúc  Mừng  Năm  Mới

Happy New Year!

With that, I yield back.
