Washington, DC – As first reported by Fox News, today, U.S. Representative Young Kim (CA-40) joined Reps. Gary Palmer (AL-06) and colleagues to introduce a bill to direct the Administrator of the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to transfer unobligated amounts of COVID funds to the Disaster Relief Fund.
In October, Rep. Kim led a bipartisan letter urging Speaker Mike Johnson and Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries for full disaster relief funding to address the impacts of recent wildfires in Southern California.
“Disaster relief funding that has proven to help areas devastated by natural disasters is now depleted, leaving communities recovering from recent wildfires and hurricanes without vital federal assistance,” said Congresswoman Young Kim. “I’m proud to help introduce this commonsense bill to simply redirect unused COVID resources to the Disaster Relief Fund. I’ll keep fighting to ensure our communities can recover from the Airport Fire and recent wildfires in Southern California.”
“When disaster strikes, FEMA’s purpose is to help the American people,” said Congressman Gary Palmer. “To ensure Americans get the help they need, we must allow these funds to be put to immediate use in the Disaster Relief Fund.”
Reps. Byron Donalds (FL-19), Barry Moore (AL-02), Brad Finstad (MN-01), Scott Perry (PA-10), Don Bacon (NE-02), and Pete Stauber (MN-08) are also original cosponsors of the bill.
