Washington, DC – Today, U.S. Reps. Young Kim (CA-40) and Robin Kelly (IL-02), co-chairs of the Maternity Care Caucus, celebrate National Breastfeeding Week from August 1-7. National Breastfeeding Week is an opportunity to raise awareness and support for lactation practices and policies.
“Far too many moms face physical, societal, or environmental barriers that keep them from breastfeeding and nursing their child comfortably and safely. During National Breastfeeding Week, we uplift moms, whether they are breastfeeding, nursing, or using formula to nourish their child,” said Rep. Kim. “Moms are warriors who tirelessly put their child first. Now, it’s our turn to give them the recognition and support they deserve. I supported the PUMP Act that was signed into law and ensures nursing moms can safely breastfeed at work. I’m proud to celebrate National Breastfeeding Week with Congresswoman Kelly and will keep working as Maternity Care Caucus co-chair to ensure moms have access to quality breastfeeding care, nutritional resources, and mental and emotional support to stay healthy and thrive.”
“Everyone has different breastfeeding journeys, and they all deserve the best care and resources to thrive,” said Rep. Kelly. “When a mother returns to work or school, having a dedicated lactation room or private space with pumps, sinks, and refrigerators can mean a world of difference. This National Breastfeeding Week and beyond, we support and celebrate mothers breastfeeding.”
