Taichung Mayor Lu Xiuyan led a delegation to visit the United States to promote investment, and held a press conference and luncheon in Los Angeles on the 27th, attracting nearly 500 overseas Chinese leaders. Lu Xiuyan said that Taichung has become a global technology center with outstanding performance in industries such as optics, precision machinery, and semiconductors. At the same time, business development is booming, and overseas Chinese and investors are invited to invest in Taichung.
Lu Xiuyan said that this visit has four major purposes: attracting investment, visiting sister cities and sister cities, thanking the overseas Chinese community for their support, and encouraging Taichung companies developing in the United States. She pointed out that Taichung’s economy has developed rapidly in recent years, and she hopes to attract more investment to take Taichung to the next level.
In terms of industrial development, Lu Xiuyan introduced Taichung’s advantageous industries. She mentioned that Taichung’s optical industry, such as Largan Light, occupies an important position in the lens market for mobile phones and 3C products. The precision machinery industry is also very strong, producing many high-tech product components. In terms of the semiconductor industry, Micron has four parks in Taichung; TSMC also has multiple factories and plans to further expand investment.
Business development highlights include: the Nantun store of the world-renowned retail giant Costco in Taichung is one of the best-performing stores in the world; the branches of many well-known department stores such as Shin Kong Mitsukoshi and Far East Department Store in Taichung are also among the best in profitability; Japan’s Mitsui Group insisted on opening Outlet and Lalaport shopping malls in Taichung during the epidemic.
Lu Xiuyan emphasized Taichung’s investment environment advantages, including its strategic location, abundant talents, and high administrative efficiency. She specifically mentioned that the Taichung City Government adopts a single-window service model, coordinated by the Economic Development Bureau, to provide convenient services to investors. In addition, the city government has also reduced land price taxes to reduce the burden on businesses.
In terms of internationalization, Lu Xiuyan said that Taichung City actively promotes English education and currently employs more than 200 foreign teachers, ranking first among the six cities, to ensure that students can receive high-quality English education.
According to data from the Ministry of Economic Affairs, Taichung City has attracted more than 300 companies to invest in the three major investment plans in Taiwan, most of which are foreign investment or Taiwanese businessmen returning from outside. Lu Xiuyan promised that the municipal government will fully assist and support investors and provide them with the best services.
