Washington, DC – Today, U.S. Representative Young Kim (CA-40) voted in support of H.R. 8070, the Servicemember Quality of Life and National Defense Authorization Act of FY25 (FY25 NDAA), which equips our Department of Defense (DoD) and U.S. military with the resources they need to keep us safe against 21st century threats. 

“We need the talent, training, and tools to support our nation’s mission against growing threats,” said Rep. Young Kim. “This NDAA shows our military that we have their backs and the world that the United States stands ready to face challenges wherever they find us – on land, at sea, in the air, in space, or in cyberspace.”  

The FY25 NDAA helps ensure our troops are mission ready to combat growing threats and aggression by adversaries by: 

  • Enhancing military readiness and recruitment 
  • Strengthening nuclear posture, missile defense, and delivery of space capabilities 
  • Securing supply chains for defense equipment 
  • Cutting inefficient, outdated defense programs and equipment, saving taxpayers $30 billion 
  • Promoting strength in the Indo-Pacific region by supporting INDOPAC Commander priorities, boosting emerging technologies, preventing espionage and malign influence by the Chinese Communist Party (CCP), and reaffirming U.S. support for defense of Taiwan and military exercises with our allies and partners 
  • Boosting border security and the safety of our communities by supporting DoD counternarcotic activities. 

The FY25 NDAA aims to improve quality of life for our brave men and women in uniform by: 

  • Providing a 19.5% pay raise for junior enlisted servicemembers and a 4.5% pay raise for all other servicemembers 
  • Increasing the servicemember cost of living allowance, housing allowance, and basic needs allowance 
  • Ensuring access to medical care and allowing DoD to recruit and employ more mental health providers and childcare workers 
  • Expanding STEM education access to all military branches on emerging technology 
  • Updating military housing infrastructure 
  • Improving career transition assistance services
