Washington, DC – Today, U.S. Representative Young Kim (CA-40) released a statement after voting on articles of impeachment against Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas for willful and systemic refusal to comply with the law and for breach of public trust.

“Secretary Mayorkas refuses to do his job to secure the border and instead deflects blame, misleads Congress, and undermines the American people – while enacting policy changes to worsen the crisis. The border crisis is worse than ever under Secretary Mayorkas’ watch, and he must be held accountable,” said Rep. Young Kim. “Impeachment is not something I take lightly, but his actions and words have shown willful and systemic refusal to comply with the law and breached the trust of Americans. I have visited the Southern border four times to see the crisis firsthand and hear on-the-ground updates from border patrol, and I’m leading a bipartisan border strategy bill. I’m committed to finding border security solutions and urge the Biden administration to come to the table to do the same.”
