Washington, DC – Today, U.S. Representative Young Kim (CA-40), who serves on the House Foreign Affairs Africa Subcommittee and as Chairwoman of the Indo-Pacific Subcommittee, joined House Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman Michael McCaul (TX-10), Committee Ranking Member Gregory Meeks (NY-05), Africa Subcommittee Chairman John James (MI-10), Subcommittee Ranking Member Sarah Jacobs (CA-51), and Rep. Dan Kildee (MI-08) to introduce a bipartisan resolution condemning the violence in Sudan and calling on the international community, including the United Arab Emirates and Egypt, to unequivocally support diplomatic efforts to achieve a cessation of hostilities, ensure the protection of civilians and secure unfettered access for humanitarian aid. This resolution also calls for the appointment of a U.S. Special Presidential Envoy for Sudan.
“The war in Sudan has created a heartbreaking humanitarian crisis, with more than seven million people displaced, including three million children. There are reports of widespread rape and sexual violence, as well as war crimes, crimes against humanity, and ethnic cleansing. We want the world to know that the United States Congress stands together in our outrage at and condemnation of the actions by both the Sudanese Armed Forces and the Rapid Support Forces as well as their enablers. The United States must use all of its diplomatic might to pressure both sides to cease this war and hand over power to the people of Sudan,” said the members.
