Washington, DC – Today, U.S. Representatives Young Kim (CA-40) and Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick (FL-20) released a joint statement after United Nations (UN) Women finally publicly condemned Hamas’ attacks on October 7.
UN Women’s response comes after Reps. Kim and Cherfilus-McCormick led 87 bipartisan colleagues in urging them to publicly condemn Hamas’ barbaric attacks, including sexual violence against women.
“UN Women should not have taken nearly two months to condemn Hamas’ barbaric attack. The heinous October 7 attack on Israel included premeditated sexual violence against women. We are glad UN Women received our letter and decided to reverse course and condemn the attacks in response. Their silence for nearly two months as images, videos, and stories of the victims were shared around the world leaves a stain on their mission to be a leader for women’s rights,” said Reps. Kim and Cherfilus-McCormick.
