Washington, DC – Today, U.S. Representative Young Kim (CA-40) released the following statement after Kevin McCarthy (CA-20) announced he would not run again for Speaker of the House.
“I thank Kevin McCarthy for his dedicated service as Speaker of the House and to California. He’s had my back since I first ran for Congress and is the reason we have our House majority, with California having led the way. Democracy is messy by design, but under Speaker McCarthy’s leadership, the House took steps in the right direction to get our country back on the right track, rein in federal spending, secure our border, promote energy independence, protect public safety, and boost our national security as we see growing aggression from adversaries like China and Russia,” said Rep. Young Kim.
Rep. Kim continued, “I’m here to govern, not grandstand. Grinding the House to a halt means we cannot pass bills, hold hearings, provide a check on this administration, and work to solve the real problems facing Californians every day – from record high gas prices and rising crime to skyrocketing living costs. Enough with the political games. Let’s get back to work for the American people. That’s my focus as always.”
