Washington, DC – Today, U.S. Representative Young Kim (CA-40) cosponsored the Pay Our Troops Act (H.R. 5641), a bipartisan bill led by Rep. Jen Kiggans (VA-02) to ensure the men and women of our military continue to receive their salary during a government shutdown.
The Pay Our Troops Act ensures that members of the military, as well as certain U.S. Department of Defense civilian employees and contractors, are paid should Congress fail to provide temporary or full-year federal funding by September 30, 2023.
“Our service members put themselves in harm’s way to protect our freedoms and should not suffer due to Washington dysfunction,” said Rep. Young Kim. “As a wife and sister to U.S. Army veterans, I appreciate the service and sacrifice of those who have stepped up to serve in our nation’s uniform and their families. I’m proud to join Rep. Kiggans and bipartisan colleagues to support our troops and protect their salary during government shutdowns.”
Rep. Kim has been fighting tirelessly to keep the government open and wrote a letter requesting that her salary be withheld during a government shutdown. Read the letter HERE.
