Rep. Kim

Washington, DC – U.S. Representative Young Kim (CA-40), Chairwoman of the House Foreign Affairs Subcommittee on the Indo-Pacific and one of the first Korean American women to serve in Congress, released the following statement on the invitation from House and Senate leadership to Republic of Korea President Yoon Suk Yeol to address a Joint Meeting of Congress on Thursday, April 27, 2023.

Rep. Kim along with House Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman Michael McCaul (TX-10) delivered the invitation to President Yoon in South Korea on Wednesday, April 5, 2023.

“I look forward to welcoming President Yoon to Washington as we mark 70 years of the US-ROK alliance,” said Rep. Kim. “As a Korean American who grew up in South Korea after the Korean War and Chairwoman of the Indo-Pacific Subcommittee, I value and am committed to strengthening our partnership. As we face growing aggression from North Korea and the Chinese Communist Party, our economic and security partnerships with South Korea and freedom-loving allies in the region are more important than ever.”
