Rep. Young Kim

Washington, DC – Last week, U.S. Representative Young Kim (CA-39) visited South Korea with a bipartisan delegation to lead meetings with senior Korean elected officials and businesses. Rep. Kim is co-chair of the Congressional Study Group on Korea and Vice Ranking Member of the House Foreign Affairs Subcommittee on Asia, the Pacific, Central Asia and Nonproliferation.

Rep. Kim learned more about the U.S.-South Korea partnership and discussed ways to advance our shared priorities with the new Yoon administration, promote trade for bilateral economic, technological and security cooperation, and support Korean investment in the United States that has strengthened our economy and created jobs.

“South Korea is a key ally of the United States and strategic partner against growing threats in the Indo Pacific region from authoritarian regimes like North Korea and China. As the Yoon administration begins its term, we must ensure we strengthen our partnership and promote an active dialogue to promote shared priorities,” said Kim. “We had productive meetings with senior officials as well as business owners to learn how we can work together to reduce trade barriers, bolster our supply chains and increase economic opportunities in both countries and across Southern California. I am hopeful that these discussions can lead to impactful policy solutions in Congress and inform my work on the Foreign Affairs Committee.”

Rep. Kim left on Tuesday, July 5, 2022, and returned on Sunday, July 10, 2022. The trip was sponsored by the Former Members of Congress (FMC) and the Korea Society.
