Rep. Young Kim Speaks in Support of Space Innovation

Washington, DC – Today, the House passed the NASA Enhanced Use Leasing Extension Act of 2021 (H.R. 5746), a bipartisan bill that U.S. Representative Young Kim (CA-39), who serves on the Space and Aeronautics Subcommittee, helped introduce to expand U.S. space innovation.

H.R. 5746 would allow the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) to continue leasing any of its underutilized, non-excess property owned by the federal government to private sector entities, state and local governments, academic institutions and other agencies involved in the research, development and deployment of space innovation.

“We need all hands-on deck to help the U.S. lead the global space race for innovation and the development of new technologies,” said Congresswoman Kim. “The NASA Enhanced Use Leasing Extension Act aims to do exactly that by allowing NASA to continue leasing any excess space to private sector companies and other innovators to support our nationwide missions in space. I’m proud to join my colleagues to introduce this bill and will continue to work on the House Science, Space and Technology Committee to support nearby space innovators in Southern California and the aerospace manufacturers who create the tools for the U.S. to continue to reach new heights.”
